Once you begin collecting eligible drink containers with Containers for Change, it’s easy to become addicted to earning your extra 10 cents for every empty bottle and can you drink (trust us, we know!).

Whatever your reason for collecting containers, whether it’s for extra money in your pocket, to donate to charity or simply for the love of recycling, here’s our top tips to help you get even more bang for your buck when it comes to collecting containers.

TIP 1 - PUT A CALL OUT ON YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY FACEBOOK GROUP

We love to see communities coming together to make change.

Some keen recyclers are doing this by offering to pick up other people’s containers on local Facebook groups.

Keep in mind to offer to collect these donated containers at times convenient for your community members.

You may like to provide reusable collection bags to your regular customers to encourage extra containers coming your way. Cha-ching!

TIP 2 - ASK A LOCAL BUSINESS IF THEY'LL KEEP THEIR EMPTIES ASIDE FOR YOU

If you have a local café or bar in your area not currently collecting their containers, ask them to keep them aside for you.

They’ll likely be more open to the idea if you propose a regular collection solution and pick-up routine they can commit to, especially if you provide some plastic boxes and your mobile number they can text as soon as it’s full.

Not only will you get your hands on some extra empties but you could end up with some new friends ‘where everybody knows your name’ (and your drink order!).

TIP 3 - Take a bag with you on outdoor adventures

Ever visit a local park or sporting ground on your weekend and see people putting their drink containers straight in the bin?

Next time you’re out and about keep a bag in your car or in your bag so you can collect these containers and ensure they don’t end up in landfill.

You might be surprised by the amount you collect doing this, especially if you’re at a popular picnic spot or sporting game!

TIP 4 - EDUCATE YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON WHAT CONTAINERS ARE WORTH

You’d be shocked to know how many people still don’t realise commonly consumed drinks are eligible for a 10 cent refund.

If you have people like this in your family or friendship group, we need you to help educate them!

Show them where they can find the “10c mark” on all eligible containers and help them set up an account on the Containers for Change app so they can scan for eligible containers using our eligibility scanner.
