Containers for Change shopfront opens in Inala
Picture this: you’ve just finished your grocery shop at Inala Civic Centre, and on the way out, you pop a few stores down to cash in your 10-cent bottles and cans before heading home.
No extra trip. No waiting around. Too easy.
That’s now reality for Inala locals thanks to the brand-new Containers for Change shopfront, operated by Panda Recycling.
What is a shopfront?
A shopfront is a convenient indoor container return point (CRP) located in a retail space, such as a shopping centre. They’re ideal for busy, high-density areas where larger depots aren’t practical.
Shopfronts bring easy, close-to-home recycling into the places you already live, work, shop and play, providing a simple, accessible drop-off option that fits seamlessly into your everyday routine.
Fast, self-serve recycling - seven days a week
The new Inala shopfront is designed for easy, walk-in, walk-out returns:
- Open 8am–8pm, seven days a week
- Two easy-to-use Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs)
- Self-serve setup for fast, hassle-free returns
- Free local pickups for homes and businesses
- Friendly staff available on-site
To ensure the service is accessible to Inala’s diverse community, clear instructions for using the RVMs are available in both English and Vietnamese.

A community that shows up
Since opening in late October, Inala locals have already returned more than 178,000 containers, putting $17,800 back into the community.
Refunds can be deposited straight to your bank account or donated to Brisbane South Toy Mission, a local charity that provides children with toys and play materials to foster family togetherness.
Panda Recycling’s owner, Jianming Su, says the response from locals has been incredible.
"As a social enterprise, our goal is to make recycling easier, friendlier and more convenient for Inala locals,” Mr Su said.
“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many neighbours who tell me their stories. For many, container recycling is more than a 10-cent refund, it's a moment of trust and human connection.”
