It’s raining cans and dogs: Schnauzer Rescue Queensland turns recycling into rescue
What if your empty cans and bottles could help a Schnauzer find its forever home? Well, they absolutely can.
Across Queensland, everyday locals are helping Schnauzer Rescue Queensland turn recycling into real-life rescue stories by donating their Bincoin refunds to the cause.
Since 2024, the volunteer-powered not-for-profit has raised more than $2,000 by returning over 20,000 eligible containers through Containers for Change. That’s a whole lot of cans - and a whole lot of wagging tails!
From empty bottles to full hearts
Every container donated helps fund the rescue and rehoming of schnauzers across the state. We’re talking vet visits, dental surgery, and all the TLC these bearded beauties need before heading off to their forever families.
Those funds make a very real difference for dogs like 12 year old Zeus, pictured below.
After losing his owner last year, Zeus came into the not-for-profit's care and recently underwent surgery to remove a benign lipoma and have dental work done, a $1,900 expense that can be fully covered by container refunds donated through Containers for Change.
It’s all part of Schnauzer Rescue Queensland’s commitment to responsible dog ownership and breeding – and it’s powered by a community that loves their schnauzers just as much as they love a clean Queensland.
The group relies on passionate supporters who collect eligible containers and donate their refunds directly through the Containers for Change app. It’s simple, feel-good recycling that makes a real difference.
Kirk Muddle, President of Schnauzer Rescue Queensland, said the milestone shows just how powerful small, everyday actions can be.
“Containers for Change is a brilliant way for us to raise additional funds rather than relying solely on direct donations. It’s a win-win; keep rubbish out of landfill while supporting schnauzers in need,” Mr Muddle said.
“We’d like to thank our loyal community who continue to support us, and we hope other charities and community groups see what’s possible through container refunds, recognising it as a valuable stream of funding.”
More than recycling
